Syd created her first seamless repeat print in a Year 10 Art class, inspired by a sketch she made at Kew Gardens, the renowned Royal Botanic Gardens in London. Her art teacher introduced her to the process of screen printing and the technique of turning a pattern into a seamless design. The pattern was so well-loved by her mother that it was transformed into a pair of curtains, which still hang in her home today.

She went on to complete an Art Foundation at Camberwell College of Arts, followed by a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design at Falmouth University. Throughout her career, Syd has remained firmly rooted in the fashion industry. She started as a Junior Designer for a menswear company in London, then worked as a Fashion Design Assistant creating snow gear on the Gold Coast. Later, she became a Senior Product Developer at Billabong Women’s, where she spent four years refining her expertise.

In 2019, while on maternity leave with her first child, Syd transitioned to freelancing and fully embraced her passion for textile design.

Looking back, she sees how each step of her journey has shaped her work today. Her background in Graphic Design sharpened her eye for detail, composition, and hierarchy, while her role as a Senior Product Developer provided valuable insight into the fashion industry's processes—from proto samples to bulk production. This blend of skills now enables Syd to confidently create and prepare artwork for like-minded companies.
